A day in Berkeley
Last Saturday we went to Berkeley. It's an hour north from where we are, really close to Oakland. The main reason was to see a concert from Belle and Sebastian and go check one of the few Spanish importation stores in the bay area.
I found it a really unique city since it's mainly for students due to the university. And that means; cheap food and second hand stores. There were a lot if "fast food" places and records and clothing stores. We wanted to try some ice cream from "Cream" but there was a long line outside and it was just a rip-off "Diddy Riese" in LA. I highly recommend Diddy Riese; amazing cookie ice creams for less than 2$ and cookies. (☆ゝ3・)σ
Then we headed to "Spanish Table" a big store with all kind of products from Spain. They also have some from Portugal and Mexico, but it's mainly Spain.
It felt really nostalgic to find all that food from Spain. They had all kind of sausages, jamón, canned seafood, beers, candies, spices, paella pans.... I liked it even though I didn't recognize the majority of the brands they were selling and everything was overpriced.
For instance, they were selling a big chocolate powder pot for 21$ this costs less than 5$ in Spain. I understand they have to make money ... I'll bring it from Spain myself, thanks.
Despite of that, I could by some meat stuff and candies my really wanted my SO to try.
Now we can enjoy our Christmas in summer saying "Zaragoza" with our mouths stuffed with polvorones. Try it, it's 100% sure fun.
Polvorones, nice brand turrón, all kind of pots and paella pans, honey and chocolate, Maria cookies and also pastries from Mallorca.
And now the concert ! I started listening to Belle and Sebastian few months ago and I really liked their music style.
The concert took place in the Greek Theatre in Berkley's university. After spending 2h listening to the opening bands under a frying sun - thank god I bought sunblock- and actually, Real State were really good also!
Then hungry headed to a kind of food plaza were we bought a "Canadian" dish which is a mix of fries, meat and whatever you can think about it inside a box. It was okay but not a huge fan of that. After that we found a donut store called "King Pin Donut" were you could see how they did the donuts.
They tasted really good, the dough was super crunchy like if it was a churro and they were just made. 10/10 would go again.
